RESCHEDULED from October 1
It’s Bee Day at the Ball-Sellers House and we will celebrate the honey bee today.

To earn the rank of Eagle Scout, Owen Yingling, has led his boy scout troop in building an historically accurate life size replica of a bee “skep” and we will be dedicating it at this event. John and Elizabeth Ball, the original builders and owners of what is now the Ball-Sellers House kept bees after they started living here in 1742.

Virginia Johnson, author of the book, Virginia Honey: A Sweet History (2021) is our keynote speaker. She will speak about the history of beekeeping in Virginia. The book will be available for purchase.

Honey-based treats will also be served and the house will be open for free tours.

Hopefully we can dodge any more hurricanes or heavy rains. The remnants of Hurricane Ian rained our first date out on October 1.
