Did you know the first place in the colonies to be called Arlington was given its name by George Washington Parke Custis, the step grandson and adopted son of George Washington?
Today, the smallest self-governing county in the country, Arlington County, still bears many of hte place names given to it by early settlers. Indeed, many Arlington place names read like the who’s who of the American Revolution and the Union leaders during the Civil War.
A 1934 street renaming and renumbering lan changed many of Arlington’s street names, leading to the loss of some historic names and some surprising new labels.
This book is an enlightening and entertaining look at how many sites in Arlington were named.
