On September 11, 2001, Col. Darling served as our nation’s primary military presence in the President’s Bunker. He witnessed the fear, confusion, and panic that immediately followed the surprise attack and the near-disasters that were narrowly averted. He also was witness to and part of the eventual clarity of decision-making and resolution that rallied our nation. His presentation is a gripping, no-holds-barred account of that fateful day.
We will also honor our military, our veterans, and our First Responders at the event. Featured speakers will include:
- Commander James Pebley, USN (Ret.), USS Arlington
- Allison Finkelstein, Arlington’s World War I Commission
- Former Chief James Schwartz, Arlington County Fire Department
In addition, the Arlington Historical Society will honor two people who have made a difference in local Arlington history with the Lifetime Achievement Award and the Volunteer of the Year Award
